Late again!

BethI think I mentioned before that I’m in the Lowewood hockey team?  I hadn’t really played much during the past couple of years – well I didn’t have to at Charnforth, so why make the effort?  But I’d always been pretty good when I’d played at prep school and I’d barely unpacked my trunk before Louisa Grantley-Knighton, the deputy games captain, descended on me to demand I tried out for hockey.  I wasn’t amused, I can tell you (Jess thought it was hilarious, the cow!)  but what choice did I have?  So anyway, long story short and I got on the team pretty much straight away: left wing, if you’re interested.  Somewhat to my surprise, I was actually quite chuffed – until I realised what exactly I’d been let in for.

Introducing Sylvie

New girlExplain this to me: how can we express ourselves freely on this blog, when every time you post something creative, whoever on the staff can read (which is, admittedly, not all of them) will wear your bottom out with a slipper, or worse? It isn’t like they believe in freedom of artistic expression. OK, we were *told* that pupils’ entries weren’t visible to the staff, but I’m not
buying it. *

Anyway, my name is Sylvie Barnable. I’ve been in Lowewood for all of three weeks, and I’m already looking forward to my escape…sorry, graduation, like you wouldn’t believe. Unfortunately, this won’t be for a while, because I’m only in the 1st year sixth.

Notes from the playing field

CricketHello all, and welcome to Lowewood, AKA Blow wood, Grow wood, No wood and various other perversions of a perfectly good name performed by first years to general hilarity every September.

It’s an alright kind of place with alright kind of people, give or take some of the more dusty old coffin-dodgers and if you’ve got the right friends in the right places then it’s sometimes even fun.

The important thing about Lowewood is, of course, not to take anything too seriously. Sure, get the essays in, do a bit of work here or there, keep your head down when trouble’s in the air, but apart from that, there’s no point worrying too much about anything. Least of all House Points. Farthingdale had a word with me again yesterday about keeping a ‘tight ship’ on the points. I told him to relax; we’d clean up at the inter-house match in a couple of weeks. The guy needs to relax. Maybe he needs some of the new stash of gin old Fingerham, the caretaker, got for us. Good contact that one. A very good contact!
